Nina Swistel is a multi-media installation artist, with reoccurring themes of sustainability, and the consumption of plastic in our society. Swistel will also bring up themes of feminism and the internet in her work.
Swistel’s primary mediums are specific types of plastic, resin, plaster, and silicone. Swistel often uses recycled plastics in her work, such as plastic bags, bottles and scrap household items. Some of her installations and sculpture involve natural elements, such as plants, dirt and rocks. Within these installations, Swistel focuses on showing a human influence over nature within a forest environment.
Swistel’s themes of sustainability in her work are to show a conceptual relationship between society and art. She believes that many sustainable artists today are focused on the act of sustainability, and less on the conceptual aspect of the work. Swistel uses her work to raise questions, and inspire though provoking concepts about sustainability and our society.
Swistel is currently represented by ATO Gallery.
